In 2015 I was delighted to be appointed as Principal of the Academy when it became part of the Cambridge Meridian Academies Trust (CMAT). I have spent my whole working life committed to providing an educational experience in a school that puts learning and individual achievement at the heart of everything it does and as such it is an exciting time of development for both staff and students at the Academy.
Sawtry Village Academy has high expectations of all its students and in return offers a high-quality education at the heart of its local community. We will develop our students into successful, confident, responsible and employable citizens. The school will be a supportive hub for its students, their families and the community.
Over the coming months I fully expect students to benefit from increasingly good teaching where staff are encouraged to continuously enhance their teaching skills; where there is an excellent standard of student care and where high aspiration is evident in student attainment. Students will be expected to develop the important skills of leadership, teamwork and co-operation through participation in a broad range of opportunities beyond the classroom such as sport, music and community involvement. In addition we expect students to engage in the completion of PLEDGES.
I expect students to work hard, developing resilience when the going gets tough and together we will celebrate their achievements, whatever their ability level. We know that learning is at its best when staff, students and parents work closely together, so on behalf of the staff may I say that we look forward to meeting with you and seeing you at as many Academy events as possible. It is a privilege to be sharing the responsibility of educating the young people in our care.
The academy is supported by the ethos and values of the Cambridge Meridian Academies Trust (CMAT), described by Ofsted as: ‘an absolute belief that every child matters’.
The Trust’s founding member was Swavesey Village College – a school regarded as ‘Outstanding in every respect’ by Ofsted. The core of this philosophy is:
- Achievement for all
- Valuing People
- A high quality learning environment
- The pursuit of excellence
- Extending the boundaries of learning
I would be delighted to answer any questions you might have in person or via email. If you would like to meet with me, or would like to visit the new academy please do get in touch to arrange a convenient time.
I look forward to meeting you in the future and hope that you will join us in achieving the aim of knowing and supporting every student to achieve and enjoy their school experience.
