Making a difference (MAD) for SVA

“Supporting the Academy Today, for a Better Future for our Children and the Community”

The MAD  volunteers consist of staff, parents and members of the local business and village community who volunteer their time to support the work of the school in order to benefit the students and wider community. They undertake two main activities, fund raising and events.

Fund Raising by The MAD Lottery

The MAD Lottery is drawn at the end of each month with a chance to win a cash prize by paying just £1, you can pay either £6 for 6 months or £12 for the year and you may join at any time.

The monthly prizes are: 1st prize £25, 2nd price £15.  The winning numbers are drawn at the Academy and if you are lucky enough to win a prize you will be notified by email and sent a cheque in the post. Proceeds from the MAD Lottery go to support the purchasing of equipment for the students. To join this scheme please email us via

At Sawtry Village Academy we are lucky enough to have community members who are keen to organise events and donate the profits back to the school. This is a great way of raising funds to support the students, as are the raffles held at open evenings and Academy productions. See our calendar for upcoming events or follow us on Facebook :

Making a Difference (MAD) Task-force

This was a new venture started way back in Spring 2015 and has had a huge impact on the learning environment across the Academy site. The idea was to bring volunteers, parents and staff together to spruce up areas of the site, but it turned into so much more! Over the years nearly all classrooms have been painted by our MAD Task-force, we have cleaned windows, dug gardens and painted many outside areas.

We love MAD volunteers! If you have a skill, trade or just a “can do” attitude we would love to hear from you, especially if you can spare a few hours to help with this work. Please contact us directly via

Every so often we organise an event so keep an eye out for them on our Facebook feed :
