‘Excellent work on show. well done to all students.’ DW

The Sawtry VA Arts Celebration Exhibition was a tremendous success on June 19th. The exhibition has now become an annual showcase of the tremendous work produced by our students studying GCSE and A Level Art and Photography. This year additional subjects were invited to exhibit so students, parents, family and friends enjoyed an evening looking at displays of Art, Photography, Media, Film studies, Graphic Design, Resistant Materials and Textiles from our yr 11 and 13 leavers.

‘You must be incredibly proud of your student’s; the work displayed showed an incredible standard achieved from a number of students across all the disciplines’ CC

The standard this year was the highest ever with many pieces demonstrating a technical content that would equal the expertise of work done by more mature artists.  Some students have produced work that goes well beyond the expectations of that level.  Truly remarkable when many of these students have produced this work whilst enduring the many pressures of all their other subjects.

‘so amazing, looked like professional artwork that could be shown in an art gallery!!!’ MS

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of awards to students for Outstanding Effort and Achievement. These were presented by Jill Challinor (Arts Society), Melissa Lopez (former Sawtry VA student), Tony Nero (Peterborough artist) and Michael Murfin (St Neots artist). The  audience of students, parents, family and friends listened to the speakers outlining the importance of the Arts in today’s society. Highlights include Yr 13 Art student Isaac McNamara receiving a wonderful portrait of himself painted by artist Francis Reynolds.
