Sawtry VA Art art students enjoy trip to Northampton University for the East Midlands A Level Art Competition

30 Art students from key stage 4 and key stage 5 enjoyed an evening art trip to Northampton University for the annual East Midlands A Level Art Competition.

The evening started with a comprehensive talk and tour of the Art facilities including workshops and studios by the Head of Art Faculty. Students were highly impressed with the work currently being produced at degree level and were also able to talk to one or two Northampton art students.

The visit enabled the students to see the large exhibition for the A Level Competition and marvel at the outstanding artwork from the regions very best talent in Drawing, Painting, 3D, Photography, Textiles and New Media. The highly prestigious competition is always very popular and the gallery was very busy. Following the time in the gallery the Sawtry art mob then descended on the auditorium for the Prize giving ceremony. Here there were great cheers and celebration as Sawtry yr 13 students Olivia Marshall and Alex Bolton picked up joint first prize for ‘Best in the Show’. Excellent achievement considering 400 entries from schools in the East Midlands area including private schools and sixth form colleges.

A long evening required a quick stop at McDonalds on way home and all students thoroughly enjoyed themselves and were greatly inspired to produce their own wonderful Art and Photography work.

‘I really enjoyed the Northampton University trip – seeing all the different Art workplaces and studios in a University was great.’ Rebecca Scrine

‘The Northampton and London trips were great trips. It was fun, inspiring and really interesting. They have really helped me with my art as well.’ Jemimah Marjot
