Our Curriculum

We have an uncompromising commitment to ensure that every child achieves their Academic potential at Sawtry Village Academy. Our curriculum has been carefully designed to secure the best possible outcomes for our students and to create well-rounded and cultured individuals.

Year 7 and 8 Curriculum

Year 7 students at Sawtry Village Academy will follow a new and exciting curriculum designed to help settle students into secondary education. This means they will study English, History, Geography, Religious Studies, PE, Music, Languages, Technology, ICT/Computing, Core Studies, Science and Mathematics as their main focus for Year 7 and 8. Our setting structure for some subjects ensures students are able to both enjoy and be challenged to progress rapidly. In Year 8, students choose, with the guidance of their form tutors and parents, their GCSE option choices to follow in Year 9 onwards.

Year 9, 10 and 11 Curriculum: GCSE

Students begin their GCSE studies in Year 9 which provides time to develop breadth and depth before taking examinations in Year 11.

Our guided choices programme allows students to access the creative and technical subjects; such as Art, Music, Sport, Drama, Product Design, Textiles, Sociology, Business, Computing, ICT and Food Technology. This is alongside a curriculum that focuses on developing students’ achievements in the core subjects; English, Maths, Science, History, Geography, Modern Foreign Languages, Ethics and Practical PE.

The essence of Sawtry Village Academy’s curriculum is to ensure that every child achieves his or her maximum potential in the pursuit of striving for excellence across all subjects.

Year 12 and 13 Curriculum: A Level and BTEC

The Academy is proud to have a very successful Post 16 curriculum and continues to offer courses that best suit our students, with the aim to set students up for both higher education and careers in a variety of fields. Full details of the Sixth Form can be found here.

Students should check their school email and Teams regularly to ensure any work set by teachers is completed.

Right to Withdraw from Religious Education (RE)

At Sawtry Village Academy, Religious Education (RE) is an important part of our curriculum. It helps pupils learn about different faiths, beliefs, and values, and to develop respect and understanding for others. RE is taught as a discrete subject at KS3 and within the Core Studies lessons at KS4.

However, under the Education Act 1996 and the School Standards and Framework Act 1998parents have the legal right to withdraw their child from all or part of Religious Education lessons if they wish to do so.

If you would like to withdraw your child from RE:

  • Please make your request in writing to the Principal.
  • You do not need to give a reason, though we are always happy to discuss any concerns or questions you may have before you make a decision.
  • The school will respect your wishes and make suitable arrangements for your child during RE lessons.

Pupils aged 16 or over can decide for themselves whether to take part in Religious Education.

We encourage all parents/carers to talk to us before making a final decision, so we can explain how RE is taught at our school and answer any questions you may have.
