Year 8 Junk Sculpture winners 2028

Date Published

A huge well done to all of our brilliant entrants in this year’s Junk Sculpture Competition. The Senior Leadership Team and the Art Department have been incredibly impressed by the creativity, effort and imagination shown by every student. We have seen truly innovative use of materials, with clever recycling and upcycling transforming everyday ‘junk’ into outstanding works of art. Selecting just 10 winners and 10 highly commended entries was an extremely difficult task for staff.

A special congratulations to Lily Whitham for winning First Place with her stunning giraffe sculpture. Close behind was Vanessa Fox in Second Place, and Alex Cuthbert in Third Place. These ambitious, inventive and beautifully crafted sculptures were a joy to see — very well done to you all!

All students placing from 1st to 10th have won a trip to Johnson’s of Old Hurst, where they will present their sculptures to the zoo staff. This is a fantastic opportunity to see in real life some of the animals they have so creatively recreated. A huge thank you to everyone at Johnson’s of Old Hurst for kindly agreeing to exhibit our winning sculptures.

The remaining sculptures will be displayed at Huntingdon Library and Sawtry Library for members of the public to enjoy.

Thank you again to all of our students — and to the families at home who support them with these extended projects. It is wonderful to see students so excited and proud of their work — and rightly so.

Well done, Year 8!
