We are going to the Zoo

Year 8 students at Sawtry Village Academy have produced an incredible collection of “junk sculptures” as part of an extended Art project. Over several months, students worked independently to design and create animal sculptures using only discarded household materials. The project aimed to raise awareness of litter and the importance of recycling.
The results have been outstanding. More than 100 imaginative and carefully crafted sculptures were displayed in the school hall, where SVA staff were invited to vote for their favourites. Selecting just ten winners and ten highly commended pieces proved to be an incredibly difficult task given the high standard of work on show.
The Art department has been thoroughly impressed by the creativity, dedication, and effort demonstrated by all students. This year’s entries showcased innovative use of materials, thoughtful recycling and upcycling, and an inspiring ability to transform everyday “junk” into striking works of art.
